A reminder that we’re getting older…
Posted on June 13th, 2009 @ 9:54 pm

It’s been two years since I graduated from UCLA.  Hardly feels like two years, especially considering the fact that I still live pretty close by and I still haven’t picked up my diploma.  June comes around as one of the busiest months of the academic year – finals, midnight yell, cramming, and of course, commencement.  I have the honor of knowing two scholars who have worked their butts off to earn their secondary degree and licenses and I had the opportunity to celebrate with them.  I guess this is where I use the phrase, “here are some photos after the jump”:

Weekend Adventures & Retail Therapy Pt. 2
Posted on June 10th, 2009 @ 8:31 pm

I really overdid it.  Even after attempting to fix the economy all by my lonesome, I decided that it was not enough and part two continued onto today!  Before I get into my purchases, my weekend was jam-packed with some excitement and I’d like to share some about it.

I’ll get the hang of this photoblogging – it’s decidedly awkward right now but I’m sure I’ll get better as time goes.

I met up with long-time friends Sue and Marnita.  To give a bit of background on these two gals, we met back in jr high school at Buena Park Jr. High.  Sue was the uber beeyatch second-in-command of the pseudo popular “Asian Group” who terrified the bejeezus out of me.  Marnita was a friend of mine in the clique I belonged to.  As years progressed and we ‘grew’ up towards high school, Sue and I became friends and Marnita dropped off the face of my planet.  After so many years of no contact, we decided to act upon the nostalgic feelings of reminiscing about the good ol’ years.

We went to Red Robin for lunch then headed over to Sue’s workplace where she works as an afterschool program director.  The kids were super cute, but due to my lack of experience in photologging, I didn’t think to take any pictures of them.. :/

We did go to The Block at Orange afterwards and I remembered to take photos.  Nothing exciting but here they are after the jump BAHAHA:

Retail Therapy
Posted on June 7th, 2009 @ 11:28 am

Yesterday was a day for a much needed shopping spree.  I proceeded to batter my wallet at third street promenade and at ross for a few items that I had been itching to buy.  Of course, there were impulse purchases as well…

I bought their second album!  The Ken Oak Band has officially changed their name to Oak & Gorski to acknowledge the two members of this dynamic duo.  Their first album was so good that I’ve been a fangirl since, and I love seeing them perform at third street.  He signed this copy as well!

Super cute earrings I found at urban outfitters.  I found gold rose earrings but I thought these were cuter and more unique.  It’s silver so it goes with anything I wear!

I would post more pictures of the rest of my purchases but that would overdo this post…Vince said a shopping trip might’ve been good but I didn’t need to fix the economy all by myself. Haha!

One more post! Happy Birthday, Tetris!
Posted on June 6th, 2009 @ 10:18 am

Tetris turns 25 today!  All those glorious years of stacking blocks started in 1984 on this day.  My most favorite classic game always and forever!

Here is Google’s logo for today commemorating this milestone:

The weekend is here!
Posted on June 6th, 2009 @ 8:24 am

I made it!!  After 12 straight grueling days of 9-10 hours of work per day, Saturday is finally here and my three day weekend begins!  Nonetheless I found myself waking up at 6am half expecting to have to get up and shower and go to work.

We had an excellent week with the interviews and things went so well that I believe they will be back again for their next event.  It’s nice to see that our hotel is doing the best out of the hotels in the area.  Just yesterday, when we thought that we were going to have an empty weekend, I received a call from a Scott Johnson, who was staying at our hotel this weekend,  looking for meeting space.  Turns out, he is the father of the Guitar Hero phenom Danny Johnson who holds the current record for the highest score in the game.  Below is the video of him playing:

Takes incredible manual dexterity to even play that fast – I wonder if Danny plays an instrument at all.  He’d have amazing fingers for the piano.

They will be hosting a gathering for people who want to come and watch him play Guitar Hero today at the hotel at 11am.  When I went up to their room to get the contract signed, I asked his mom, Lemon, what they were here for.  That was when she told me that her son was the record holder for the game Guitar Hero.  Their hotel room was strewn with game consuls, game cds and computers.  She proudly took out a plaque which read something to the effect of “Danny Johnson, World Record Holder for Highest Score” something or other.

Funny thing is I told the F&B Director about his and he replied, if that were my kid I’d smack him and tell him to go study.  HAHA.  GG.

Beautiful music
Posted on June 4th, 2009 @ 8:13 pm

This youtube video is of a song I found not too long ago while browsing a bar/lounge collection I randomly downloaded.  The song is in Portuguese I think and I cannot understand a word of it and I do not know the meaning of the lyrics.  But nonetheless, I find that songs in a foreign language that I cannot understand are most beautiful.

Nostalgia
Posted on June 3rd, 2009 @ 11:17 pm

Today the power went out on our whole block. It shut off at 6:30 pm and I sat there as the sun began to set.  I started getting restless and my computer died and my phone was on its way to empty.  I decided to go to my car, at least charge my phone and maybe go for a drive since there was no sense in sitting in a dark apartment.

I chose UCLA.  I chose UCLA because I haven’t been inside and around the campus in ages, perhaps since Melissa moved away.  I drove around Charles E Young Drive up near the dorms and looped my way around the Drake Stadium and made my way around North campus then back down to Geology and Hershey.  The most nostalgic part of my ride was that I actually went towards Royce, made the left turn and went all the way down to the Ackerman dead end.  I almost half expected something to happen, for someone to come out that door.  I sat there pondering the good times that ended there almost two years ago and made my way back up towards the main roads.  The ride was, to say the least, uneventful and the campus looked just as I had remembered it.  I think I’ll take a moment to actually walk around campus sometime in the near future.

The power still hadn’t turned on by the time I drove by my apartment around 7:30 pm.  So I continued along – traffic was surprisingly uncongested – down towards my next stop at Ross.  I found a jacket that I just HAD to try and I ended up buying it too.  Then went to Shinsengumi with Susy and Mark and had some ramen.  Now I am back, and it is 11:15 pm.  I expect the light had turned on not 30 minutes ago.  Amazing what I can do when I’m not sitting in front of a computer as soon as I go home…which is another reminder that I need to spend my time a bit more wisely.

Tomorrow is Thursday which means 2 more days until temporary freedom.  Ah, the light at the end of the tunnel becomes brighter!

It’s only Wednesday T.T
Posted on June 3rd, 2009 @ 6:12 am

I’m still in bed.

Today is my 9th day of straight work.  At this point I am pretty numb,  and have come to terms with the fact that weekend is yet another three days away.  Things are going well (sort of) at work and I am just trying to keep my head above water and be patient for the weekend to throw me a lifesaver.

Because of this wretched schedule I find myself stuffing my face with a lot of junk lately.  Funyuns, yakisoba, burgers, pizza, soda, and candy are among my favorite things to inhale.  Not that they aren’t during times when I am otherwise UN-stressed..but I have been mindlessly grabbing these items and putting them in my mouth.  Sort of like how babies do it.

15 more minutes and I’ll drag myself out of bed.  I promise.
